Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), Redistribution of Wealth?

Adopted in 1982, the Law of the Sea Treaty was initially named the Third United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III) developing a set of detailed rules to control the oceans, replacing the 1958 (UNCLOS I) and 1960 U.N. Conventions on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS II). UNCLOS III was joined by 162 countries.

“Negotiated in the 1970s, the Law of the Sea treaty was influenced by the New International Economic Order, a set of economic principles advanced at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in the 1970s and 1980s,” calling for redistribution of wealth to the less developed countries.

President Ronald Reagan rejected the treaty in 1982 because it demanded technology and wealth transfer from developed countries to developing nations as well as adopting regulations and laws to control oceanic pollution. Jurisdictional limits on oceans included a 12-mile territorial sea limit and a 200-mile exclusive economic zone limit. The treaty aimed to regulate economic “activity on, over, and beneath the ocean’s surface.”

Despite the many pros and cons of LOST, in March 2004, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee recommended by unanimous vote that the U.S. sign the treaty.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) opposed the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) on several grounds, including the loss of National Sovereignty. According to Sen. Mike Lee, treaties must represent U.S. economic and security interests.

To ratify a treaty, the President needs two-thirds majority vote from the Senate. To this date, LOST has not been ratified.

The rejection of LOST has not affected our economy and navigation rights. Sen. Lee found the loss of National sovereignty and mandatory dispute resolution included in the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) quite troubling.

The International Seabed Authority (“the Authority”) has the power to distribute “international royalties” to developing and landlocked nations. “So hypothetically, a U.S. company that has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in developing clean and safe deep-sea mining machinery would be forced to give a portion of its profits to countries such as Somalia, Sudan, and Cuba – all considered to be developing nations by ‘the Authority.’” (Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah)

Sen. Mark Begich, D-Alaska, supports the ratification of LOST. He believes that this treaty provides rules to oversee future underwater minerals, gas, oil exploration, and shipping on new water routes opened by receding Arctic icepack. Would, however, the Arctic icepack melt be a constant in the future?

According to Sen. Mark Begich, “The United States is the world’s leading maritime power. Only by ratifying the treaty can it protect freedom of navigation to advance our commercial and national security interests, claim extended continental-shelf areas in the Arctic – an area believed to be twice the size of California – as other nations are already doing, and use its provisions to protect the marine environment, manage fisheries and appoint Americans to help resolve disputes.” (The American Legion Magazine)

The January 2026 issue of The American Legion published another article titled, “Lost at Sea, America’s costly absence from the Law of the Sea Treaty.” The writer of the article, John Norton Moore, a former U.S. Ambassador for the Law of the Sea, pointed out the “critical costs of U.S. non-adherence:

1.      Loss of American deep-seabed mining industry and associated jobs, tax revenues, and scientific and technology knowledge.

2.      Loss of ability for the U.S. to shape environmental and mineral recovery rules.

3.      Death by a Thousand Cuts – he believes China undercuts U.S. navigational freedom for the Navya and Air Force.

4.      Loss of the strongest legal basis against Chinese ‘gray-zone’ challenges of Chinese illegal activities

5.      Difficulty cooperating with our allies who are all part of the treaty.

6.      Uncertainty concerning the status of the U.S. ‘extended continental shelf.’

7.      Inability of the U.S. to effectively participate in the most important oceans institutions

8.      Ignoring the U.S. national security community,” including the environmental community.

According to the Heritage Foundation, innocent passage through an area is already protected under “multiple independent treaties, as well as traditional international maritime law.”  Few countries deny passage to the U.S., given its naval superiority. Under the Law of the Sea Treaty, “intelligence and submarine maneuvers in territorial waters would be restricted and regulated.” It is thus not in the national security interest of the United States to ratify this treaty.

The treaty requires policies that regulate deep-sea mining: it requires rules and regulations to control and prevent marine pollution: and requires the control of corporations who cannot bring lawsuits independently. They must depend on the country of origin to plead their case in front of the United Nations’ agency.

“Some proponents of the treaty believe that it will establish a system of property rights for mineral extraction in deep seabed, making the investment in such ventures more attractive.”

President Reagan objected to the principle of the “Common Heritage of Mankind,” which dictates that marine resources belong to all humanity and cannot be exploited by one nation.

To redistribute the wealth, the UN “Authority” must regulate and exploit mineral resources by asking companies to pay an application fee and to reserve an extra site for the Authority to “utilize its own mining efforts.”

A corporation must also pay an annual fee and up to 7% of its annual profits and share its mining and navigational technology. Mining permits are granted or withheld by the “Authority” which is composed of mostly developing countries. (Heritage Foundation)

“Article 82 of the Convention: “Payments and contributions with respect to the exploitation of the continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles.” If the U.S. accedes to UNCLOS, it will be required pursuant to Article 82 to transfer royalties generated on the U.S. continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles (nm)—an area known as the “extended continental shelf” (ECS)—to the International Seabed Authority. These royalties will likely total tens or even hundreds of billions of dollars over time. Instead of benefiting the American people, the royalties will be distributed by the Authority to developing and landlocked nations, including some that are corrupt, undemocratic, or even state sponsors of terrorism such as Cuba and Sudan.” https://www.foreign.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/Groves%20prepared%20testimony%20for%20UNCLOS%20hearing%20(final).pdf

Any kind of maritime dispute, fisheries, environmental protection, navigation, and research, must be resolved under this treaty through mandatory dispute resolution by the UN court or tribunal which limits autonomy. Disputes should be resolved by U.S. courts. (Heritage Foundation)

The GOP has passed a resolution on January 14, 2012, exposing United Nations Agenda 21 as “a comprehensive plan of extreme environmentalism, social engineering, and global political control that was initiated at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED).”

“According to the United Nations Agenda 21 policy, national sovereignty is deemed a social injustice.” United Nations treaties and programs want to force “social justice” through wealth redistribution from developed nations to third world countries.

The United States’ provisional participation in LOST expired in 1998. Would the ratification of another treaty that has the potential to further chip away at our national sovereignty be a clever idea?

Change from Mayberry to Islam-berry

I am watching with my husband the seventh season (the color version) of the Andy Griffith Show and we are enjoying it immensely.

Sadly though, sixty years later, only Opie is still alive, and he is 71 years old, older than I am. The lives and characters of the fictional Mayberry were broadcast in 1966 and was meant to represent a small slice of the American way of life in a small North Carolina town which seems to be devoid of black people. Mayberry was meant to be located somewhere not far from Raleigh and Mt. Pilot.

It is amazing how in 60 years the fictional Christian Mayberry has turned into Islam-berry, Somalia-berry, and Hijab-berry in many American cities, counties, and states.

Worship at the Altar of the Third World

During feudal times villagers who lived in poor and tightly knit communities were forced to pay taxes to the lord living in the castle nearby, and abide by his decisions, who aimed to keep them enslaved to him, to his family, and to his properties awarded by the whims of the king. This system of feudalism lasted from the 5th to the 12th centuries.

Through an extraordinarily complex process, social, economic, and political, private property obtained through hard work, luck, inheritance, and entrepreneurship gave birth to capitalism. Ever since, academics, communists, United Nations, and billionaire globalists alike have vied to end private property and to destroy capitalism, arguably the most successful form of economic system.

In the 21st century, western civilization, having evolved across the centuries through many political and economic systems, finds itself under attack.

The planet, composed of 194 states, 193 of which are United Nations members, Vatican excluded, are experiencing similar developments, the invasion of western civilization countries by underdeveloped nations, all planned initially under the United Nations Agenda 21/2030.

One of U.N.’s associated organizations, The International Organization for Migration (IOM), was formed in 1951 to address population displacement following World War II. The mass repatriation of people forcibly removed from their homelands and those who fled Hitler’s regime was an important mission.

Since then, refugees from war-torn countries have necessitated migration to safe areas and countries previously agreed upon. But in the last 15 years, the migration of non-assimilating Muslims to western countries has intensified while oppressed Christians from Muslim-dominated countries were denied such shelter.

Today, according to its website, IOM, with its 175 member states and 8 observer states, is “a leading intergovernmental organization dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of migrants and society.”

No mention is made of the linguistic, cultural, religious, and economic loss of the people invaded by the migrants and the massive cost they must bear to implement IOM’s plan and support their “migrants.”

IOM focuses work on three objectives:

1.     Saving lives and protecting people on the move

2.      Driving solutions to displacement

“IOM endeavors to reduce the risks and impacts of climate change, environmental degradation, conflict and instability for communities affected by or at risk of displacement.”

Since global warming has been proven a hoax and climate has been changing for millennia, there are no provable risks to various populations; conflict and instability have been the hallmark of many countries of centuries.

3.      Facilitating pathways for regular migration (“IOM prioritizes whole-of-government, whole-of-society approaches to safely connect people, goods, services, knowledge and innovation.”) It is hard to understand exactly what this word salad says.

It is safe to say that no Americans, living in small towns and communities who woke up and found that their population has increased massively overnight by illegal aliens dropped in their midst, were consulted whether they agreed to or could afford to house so many illegals, feed them, educate them, and provide their healthcare for free.

The American people need to stop being so polite and demand that criminals and other thieves be thrown out of the country. They need to provide welfare programs for their own citizens instead of invaders from cultures that hate us and are antithetical to our way of life and religious beliefs. These “migrants” invading our country are not loyal or grateful to the people who took them in, are not assimilating, they are building their own culture within our culture. A culture without unity, shared history, and language cannot survive.

It is true that our foreign policy and the wars we started by invading others have resulted in the importation of refugees from that part of the world, or from countries torn by tribal wars.

These refugees never wish to assimilate even though they are treated better than our own citizens. They receive immediate supplemental income, free health care, free education, free childcare, free housing, free Medicaid insurance, and EBT cards for food allowance.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is requesting $4.7 billion for 2026 to “assist 41 million people on the move and to reinforce the systems that make migration safe, orderly, and regular.” IOM’s request is made because “people move in search of protection, opportunity and stability, and these needs require sustained, principled support.” (Geneva, 8 December 2025) IOM Launches 2026 Global Appeal to Support 41 Million People on the Move | International Organization for Migration

Americans, who wish to move away from the large cities bankrupting the citizenry with confiscatory taxation, cannot afford to migrate to other areas of their own country. Their taxes go to support more illegals.

Leftists want them here in America but do not want them in their own homes or neighborhoods. The fifty illegals bussed to Martha’s Vineyard only stayed on the island for a few hours before the rich and outraged locals had them removed to other parts.

Americans on the left and Democrats in general, worship at the altar of the third world and advocate for the destruction of their own country.

Technology Aims to Enslave Us

Americans are losing their country and freedoms incrementally. Things are melting down while they are lulled into a false sense of security with the help of technology. They are content if there is food in the pantry, gas in the car, and plenty of sports on the blue screens.

It started with the scare of global warming. Fear mongering has convinced society at large that our planet is in peril and, to save it, we must reduce the levels of CO2 drastically if we expect to survive. When the dire predictions from various billionaires, their paid talking heads and activists did not pan out, the globalists changed their tune. Global warming turned into a very profitable climate change industry.

Climate change activism and fear of planetary Armageddon brought more EPA regulations, fines, and directives from the unelected bureaucrats at the U.N. who met yearly in opulent locations, traveling in the much-maligned fossil fuel cars and flying in private or commercial jets, while telling us to drive tin cans or bicycle to work.

Then they introduced solar panels and wind turbines to create inefficient and insufficient electricity; then 15-minute cities were created to isolate humanity in large clusters of high-rise living spaces with the convenience of being five minutes’ walk from everything and no parking garages for cars.

If you own a car, you are given one hundred times a year to enter and exit through approved gates, after which you are fined for using your car too much. The idea of such 15-minute cities brings back memories of living under communism and of the poor Chinese locked up in their high-rise apartments during the forced lockdowns in China in 2021, sick, without food and medical treatment, and without any possibility of escape.

Then expensive electric cars were introduced to replace the “evil” fuel combustion vehicles. The problem is that electric vehicles are not dependable for long distance driving and for freezing weather and are still quite expensive for ordinary Americans who work for a living.

Finally Artificial Intelligence (AI) arrived and the push for its exclusive use to replace humanity and the push for digital currency while humanity is promised a living wage for which they do not have to work (how attractive), they can just stay home, easy to control, and AI will do the work for them. What could possibly go wrong?

“As AI systems become more advanced, they will start to infiltrate various sectors, beginning with white-collar jobs and eventually expanding to blue-collar industries… This shift could lead to a situation where businesses simply do not need human employees to maintain and increase profits… One widely discussed solution to the potential job displacement caused by AI is Universal Basic Income. This concept involves providing all citizens with a regular, unconditional sum of money to ensure they can meet their basic needs, regardless of their employment status … the primary means of earning a living is no longer necessary for many.”

The problem with total technology is that it created a “technocracy” of corporations and governments with the aim to control everything and everyone with digital ID systems whereby corporations and governments would have the extraordinary power to “track, monitor, and control every aspect of our lives” – healthcare, money, wealth, travel, transportation, education, work, and social interactions.

Bill Gates, one of the evil forces behind forced vaccinations, digital currency, and AI said, “Digital ID must be accepted by U.S. citizens by 2028. Otherwise, they risk exclusion from society.” His outrageous statement should give pause to every freedom-loving American.

Digital currency, once fully implemented, will monitor what you spend your money on, how much you can spend, tax all your earnings, punish you with the Chinese Social Credit Score if they deem that you did not behave appropriately to their liking; banks and the government will close your account and confiscate your money at the whim of a bureaucrat or an AI program.

The main drive right now is the establishment of data centers everywhere; without them, the AI cannot operate fully as intended. Each data center needs at least ten acres of land, and lots of water and electricity. The leftist solutions to replace fossil fuels and electricity generation from coal? Invest in more “renewable energy” of wind and solar. Shortages and higher costs of water and electricity are soon to follow. Processors for AI consume a lot of energy and water.

How will your life be different from feudal slavery or communist slavery? You will have no control over your life at all. Corporations will dictate what you can eat, think, do, read, what products can be made, how much food you can have, your clothing, housing, medicine, travel, etc. Life will be sad, no hope, no freedom of choice, no creativity, no dreams, no future.

President Trump’s AI advisors and digital currency technocrats have convinced him that AI and digital currency are the answer for everything. However, without confidential information kept private, a cash money supply, and inviolable private property, there is no freedom.

Ignaz Semmelweis and the Fools’ Tower

Before the germ theory of medicine, there was a Hungarian doctor, Ignaz Semmelweis, who practiced medicine at the Vienna General Hospital in the 1840s.

Semmelweis noticed, after an anatomy professor who was dissecting a cadaver for his students and cut himself with the scalpel, resulting in a severe infection (sepsis) which eventually claimed his life, that many doctors who practiced surgery on cadavers, were going afterwards to treat women in the hospital’s maternity ward.

After researching and comparing the death rate of women from child bed fever in the maternity ward with the death rate of women who were having their babies at home, he discovered that women giving birth in the hospital were dying at a much higher rate than those delivering at home. Guessing that there must have been some invisible infectious agent, he recommended that doctors wash their hands in chloride of lime. Following this advice and practice, the death rate of women giving birth in the hospital maternity ward went down to almost zero.

Semmelweis did an actual study and published it, but it was not well received at all. Instead of praising him, the international medical community at the time considered him a lunatic, denounced him as deranged, and decided to silence him.

European academia convinced a court in Vienna to declare him mentally insane when he did not stop teaching his medical students to wash their hands in chlorinated lime.

Semmelweis was shocked that eminent doctors, who knew he was right, would rather condemn women to death rather than admit that they were wrong.

These eminent doctors, with the help of the Vienna court, condemned him to a mental asylum in Vienna, the Narrenturm (Fools tower), where he died years later. In a strange turn of events, a guard at the insane asylum struck him with an object, not sure if it was sharp or blunt, he got an infection and it resulted in his death.

Interestingly, Narrenturm still exists today. It is the oldest building in continental Europe for psychiatric patients. Built in 1784, it is located near the site of the old Vienna General Hospital. The circular building is now the location of the Federal Pathologic-Anatomical Museum of Vienna.

Millions of people since then have been saved because of Dr. Semmelweis’ discovery, a doctor who was humiliated and punished by his colleagues at European universities because he was right and they were wrong; they wanted to save their academic reputation and earnings. They did not care that they destroyed his career and his life. Even his wife left him.

He was eventually vindicated thirty years later with the advent of Robert Koch’s discovery of the TB bacillus, anthrax, and cholera, specific bacteria at the root of those infectious diseases.

Silencing Semmelweis was a sad chapter in the history of medicine, not unlike what happened to some doctors in the U.S. who refused to subject their patients to Covid-19 vaccines and instead treated them with drugs like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin when they came down with Covid-19. The cure rate for such patients was astonishing, yet the medical profession and the press were laughing at them that they were using “horse paste” to treat the sick. These doctors were vilified, shamed, marginalized, turned into pariahs, their licenses were suspended, lost their hospital privileges, jobs, and professorships for which they had worked hard to achieve.

Latins

Terracina is an ancient Italian city and seaside resort in the province of Latina, Lazio, located between Rome and Naples on the Tyrrhenian coast, known for its beaches, Roman ruins like the Temple of Jupiter Anxur, and its historic connection to the Via Appia.

The bogus terms that the left has invented, designating Hispanics from South America as Latino, Latins, Latinx, does not bear resemblance to any historical ties to Rome and the Roman Empire, the only people who can call themselves Latin(s).

"Euro Trash"

In the early 1980s, many Americans in the southern town where we lived called us “Euro trash.” It was their way of telling us that we did not belong among them and we were thus not very welcome.

We were educated Christian white women who escaped communism and wanted to make a free life for ourselves and our children and grandchildren. We were contributing to society and, once we became naturalized citizens, we proudly flew the American flag and celebrated its culture and traditions.

The rejection did not stop with us; it eventually included our children and grandchildren. There were few American children who were allowed to play and associate with our children. Usually, military children became friends with my children – their parents were better traveled and open-minded to the cosmopolitan nature of America.

My children were embarrassed when their mom and grandma spoke another language and we were watched and followed in public like pariahs. They begged us not to speak in public and, if we did, to speak in hushed tones. At the time, they seldom told other people that they also spoke well another language in addition to English.

We learned to cope with the overt rejection of us as “foreigners” and “Euro trash.” After all, we were told, time and time again, Americans could not include us in their lives because “they could not accept just anybody off the streets” and “you had to be seven generations removed in America in order to be considered an American.” Even to this day, I have been told that I am not American because I am naturalized and was born elsewhere, therefore papers stating so do not count.

My children grew into wonderful human beings and Americans, well-educated and productive members of society.

I often wondered what these same Americans think today when they are being overtly conquered and their culture changed day by day, forty-five years later by third world, mostly uneducated and unvetted illegals, Christians and non-Christians, who have been allowed to invade towns all-over small-town America and are now on the welfare rolls?
