Why is Gas so High?

For those Americans who are foolishly claiming that the skyrocketing price of oil is Putin's fault, here is some news for you - it is entirely the Biden administration's fault. When he took office, gasoline was $1.69 a gallon in my town, it is now $4.55 per gallon while Diesel is $5.55 per gallon. We need plenty of affordable gasoline and Diesel to run our complex and very large economy.

He closed oil leases, fracking, offshore drilling, and the XL pipeline which was delivering gas from Canada. He did this on day one and the price of gas started to escalate immediately. Crude oil is being transported by rail (powered with electricity created with Diesel and coal) instead of the much cheaper pipelines which crisscross our country from Alberta, Canada and other places.

It was Biden's plan all along to destroy the fossil fuel industry in order to replace it with the pie-in-the-sky green energy delivered by expensive, inadequate, and insufficient solar and wind power.

The U.S. became overnight an oil importer again instead of an oil exporter as it had been under the Trump administration.

OPEC took advantage of this situation of a weak and partisan president and refused to increase production, thus further escalating the price of crude oil per barrel.

Speculators entered the fray and affected the futures price as well on the Chicago Board of Trade. This often happens when the political climate is poor, people fear their incompetent government, and the future looks bleak.

The fact that Democrats and some Republicans have voted to print dollars without any backing of goods and services, creating high inflation, highest in forty years, and then spending trillions of dollars we don't have, like drunken sailors, has devalued our U.S. dollar which is the currency in which crude oil is priced and quoted around the globe.

Supply and demand for crude oil, gas, and Diesel are also out of whack due to the economic effects of the lockdowns and other labor and economic decisions made by U.S. corrupt politicians, further exacerbating the price increases.

One caller to the WMAL station in Washington, D.C. area, stated on Friday that she has 7 children and must fill up the van with gasoline every four days. Each time it cost $100. This translates into $750 a month just for gasoline. Middle class Americans must decide whether they eat, drive their cars, or pay their mortgages/rent.

This terrible economy is entirely Biden's fault and the fault of those who voted for him and thus for the destruction of our economy.

Your unwise vote is putting most of the middle class in a poor house filled with shortages and high inflation. The economic and energy situations are quite dire.

  1. From Nancy Schiffman: Hi Ileana,
Just finished reading your articles on oil and food. I am worried about the food supply. I am not comfortable with China buying up much of our farmlands. Putin is not responsible for our shortages of baby formula. The recall didn't help, but diverting much of the supply to the border appears to be the real reason. What our government doesn't know is that most mothers from less developed countries nurse their babies. Furthermore, I don't believe that the detention facilities have provisions to sterilize bottles, mix the formula and refrigerate several bottles daily for each baby. All I can say, what other food shortages will the American people be facing in the near future? There seems to be an agenda that puts the American people last. Keep reporting, we need a voice of reason.

  2. From Paul Blumstein: Windmills kill birds. Many dead birds, including the protected bald eagle, have been found at the base of windmills.

  3. From Carmel in MS: Thanks for input on the gas crisis. IMO - It is deliberate price gouging designed to keep people from socializing and put money into the politicians' pockets. These politicians are greedy and need to be term limited. They stir a pot of confusion and keep juggling problems and meanwhile they're lining their pockets.

Let's take the city bus, tram and underground train, get late to work or school and pay higher taxes for Comrade Bidet's regime!

  5. At store I went to: Baby formula shelves empty: Boost, Ensure & protein mixes in stock. Can Defense Production Act be used to have these co.'s & others like Optimum Nutrition, produce formula? Doesn't DOD already have co.'s making powdered MRE shakes?

    1. There is a recipe circulating on Facebook from the 1950s (a recipe given to any new mom by a pediatrician before she takes her baby home from the hospital) to make her own formula with powdered milk and/or condensed milk and they censored it because it violates their community standards.

  7. From A. J. Cameron: Ileana,

    Thank you for your column.

I understand everyone's frustrations, with the cost of gas, being one of them. I can identify with the lady who is frustrated with the delimma of choosing between eating, or filling up her car. I'm the oldest of seven siblings. Most of my work career was in sales, requiring driving well beyond the normal commute, to and from work. While the mileage was tax-deductible, the deductible amount doesn't come close to the cost of the extra cost of gasoline and wear-&-tear upon a vehicle.

From my perspective, this is how government in the U. S. works. Every puppet in the puppet hut a/k/a the White House, is (s)elected, by those who control the government, from outside the government. I know this isn't what people want to hear, or believe, which makes this con sooooo effective!

Once a puppet occupies the puppet hut, he advances what he is told to advance, or is allowed to advance. In the case of oil, Warren Buffett, that sage old Oracle of Omaha has oil transported on his trains, making billions for him and his investors, while stealing jobs and people's incomes to finance this facade about saving the planet. This is so obviously 'by design'.

We're less than two weeks away from a $.20 to $.40(?) increase in the cost of gasoline at the pump. Every year, near Memorial Day, CAFE standards are imposed on gasoline. CAFE standards demand that specific blends of gasoline be made for specific metropolitan areas. This requires additional refining, for every major market in the country, AND there can be no sharing of specific blends beyond each specific market. CAFE standards run through Labor Day weekend. We're told that the cost of gasoline goes up for the summer, due to increased demand, and while this is true, that is the truth that hides the larger cost of the increase. One might expect a fire, or other issues with one, or more refineries, akin to the mysterious fires at food processing plants!

If the goal is to limit one's driving, the cost to drive must be increased to the point that it stings, every time a person fills up his/her auto. If the goal is to limit one's independence, the cost of independence must be increased, to decrease one's independence. If decreased independence is the goal, people will be forced to choose between eating and driving.

Thank you for stating that Putin isn't the source of the historic increase in the cost of gasoline. He isn't just a convenient stalking horse for our increased costs and eroded liberties, he was a planned stalking horse for our increased costs and eroded liberties.
