The Rus and How Russia Got Its Name

The Vikings, sailing in their strong and narrow ships, built so tough that were able to withstand rough seas, reached amazing parts of the world such as Newfoundland via Iceland and Greenland, and may have discovered America before Christopher Columbus. Their raids reached around today’s France, Spain, Italy, the southern part of the Mediterranean, England, Ireland, Germany, the Nordic countries, all the way to Kiev and the Caspian Sea.

They were searching for land more fertile than the soil in Scandinavia. They used Europe’s rivers such as the Rhine and the Volga and their tributaries to reach unsuspected communities which they raided with the intent to carry the loot and trade with other Vikings.

The red haired and bearded Viking raiders started plundering Europe’s villages at the end of the eighth century and by the tenth century the raids ended, and the Vikings became colonists.

Normandy was granted to them in 911 A.D. and they adopted the French language and their religion. The Duke of Normandy became a powerful ruler of Europe and his Christian soldiers conquered all of England in 1066, then southern Italy and Sicily.

Norwegians, without maps and compasses and with 50-70 feet long boats, founded in the deserted Iceland a land of farmers and fishermen in which all free men could speak and vote, the first democracy since Greece.

Erik the Red found Greenland. His son Leif found a land which he called Vinland, Newfoundland. He tried to colonize it but failed.

A grave of a Viking raider/trader found in eastern Sweden in a town called Fittja, was evidence to the reach of the Viking explorations; it contained silver pieces from Cordoba, Spain, Egypt and Syria, Baghdad, and the city of Tashkent in Central Asia, today’s capital of Uzbekistan.

The Viking raids’ destinations were churches and monasteries where they knew that Christians kept incredible valuables made of gold, silver, and precious gems. In the process of raiding, the Vikings destroyed and burned to the ground many churches and monasteries.

The plundering Dane named Rorik, after sacking the port of Dorestad, at the mouth of the River Rhine, decided to settle there and became a prosperous merchant. Others formed trading posts far away which grew into cities like Dublin and Kiev. There was already a flourishing Scandinavian trade in furs, cattle, dairy, and Baltic amber during the Roman times.

The Vikings were vigorous warriors, aggressive, enterprising, willing to take risks, and did not fear death. Valhalla was heaven and final destination.

Ibn Faldan, the Arab ambassador from the Caliphate of Baghdad, wrote on a mission to the “Rus,” the Vikings of the East, in 922 A.D.:

“Never have I seen people of more perfect physique; they are tall as date palms and reddish in color. They are the filthiest of God’s creatures. They do not wash after discharging their natural functions, neither do they wash their hands after meals. They are as stray donkeys. . . . Ten or twenty of them may live together in one house, and each man has a couch of his own . . ..”

Ibn Faldan described how a slave girl brings her master a huge bowl of water in which he washed his face, hands, and hair, blew his nose and spit into the water. Then the bowl was carried to his neighbor who followed the same ritual until the same bowl was carried around to the entire household.

Faldan wrote about the Viking chief’s burial ritual in an ornate boat decorated with silk brocades; how an old woman named the Angel of Death stabbed a young slave-woman who “volunteered” to die with her master; the Viking men banged on their shields to drown out the cries of the slave while the ship, the dead chief, and his young and unwilling slave were set on fire for his fleeting trip to Valhalla.

The geographer Ibn Rusteh, another Arab traveler, wrote about thirty years later that the Vikings wore “exquisite clothes, respect their guests, are hospitable and friendly to strangers.” They stick together in battle as one until victory but are very quarrelsome, wrote Rusteh. Both writers agreed that the Vikings demanded too much tribute from Slav villages.

The Vikings were called the Rus by their Finnish neighbors. According to the twelfth century Russian Chronicle, the Rus were invited by the Slavs in the ninth century to rule their land because “Our land is rich, but there is no order in it. Come rule over us.”

Rurik, his brothers, and their descendants accepted the Slavs’ offer and established Novgorod, Smolesnk, and Kiev, which they stated to be the “mother of Russian cities.” Kiev became the “early capital of this Slavic land now ruled by the Rus and soon to be known as Rus or in English, Russia.” (Quest for the Past)

The Viking savages, as the Arabs wrote, were civilized by contact with the Byzantine world (today’s Istanbul). Prince Vladimir converted in 987 to Eastern Christianity and married the Byzantine Emperor’s sister. She was not too happy about the marriage and tried everything in her power to prevent it but was unsuccessful. Vladimir is said to have had hundreds of paramours.

Scholars believe that, by the end of the tenth century, the Viking blood in Russian society had diluted, which explained the Slavic name Vladimir. Historians agree that the mixture of Vikings and Slavs resulted in the first Russian state.

In 907 A.D., a Viking fleet commanded by the Swedish ruler of Kiev, Oleg, attacked the Byzantine Empire, according to the Russian Chronicle, by bringing his boats on land with wheels fitted on them. The ships, with spread sails pushed by the wind, rolled onto the city and the overwhelmed Byzantines had to beg for peace because the Byzantine Emperor and his army were away. Oleg’s son, Igor, tried the same trick in 942 A.D. but failed miserably when his fleet was destroyed.

 The Vikings maneuvered their slender boats swiftly up rivers, estuaries, “sailing around headlands, bringing fire, rape, and pillage inland.” In 793 A.D. they sacked the monastery of Lindisfarne (northeastern coast of England), the monks were slaughtered, and the holy treasures stolen.

St. Bertin Abbey’s annals in Rouen, France, describe “Danish pirates” in 841 A.D. “carrying everywhere a fury of rapine, fire, and sword.”

In 885 A.D. the Danes destroyed Paris. On horse and on foot, running through fields and hills, killing babies, children, young men, old men, fathers, sons, and mothers . . .. They ravage, they despoil, they destroy, they burn. . ..” They took no prisoners.

Records are scant and they come from third parties such as Arab travelers and religious people some of whom had been robbed. The Vikings do not have written accounts, but they do have Icelandic Sagas.

Archeologists depend heavily on findings from Viking tombs and unearthed homes and villages. Full armors for the head and torso have not survived but a famous warrior’s helmet dated from the seventh century was found in Sweden. Five other partial helmets survive from the Viking Age. Thick leather protected other parts of the body and the warriors carried a shield, an ax, or a heavy sword.

Cargo of Refugees, a Planned Invasion?

Cargo after cargo of “refugees,” defiant young Muslims seeking a better life in non-Muslim countries with generous welfare programs, are arriving on the Mediterranean shores and at the border of small and much poorer countries than the rich Arab states bordering Syria. Even though they speak the same language, they are taking in zero “refugees” with the excuse that they are trying to minimize the threat of terrorism.

Instead of choosing refuge in Arab-speaking countries with the same religion, ethnic groups, and form of government, the young Muslims choose the very countries they despise whose religion they want to destroy and replace with their own.

These “refugees” are so deprived, sporting leisurely well-dressed tourist attire with cell phones, are throwing packages of Red Cross bottled water and food onto railroad tracks in a Budapest train station because a cross is offensive to their religion.

Those who decided to walk to Germany and Sweden, impatient to get there sooner than later, have left tons of garbage on the side of highways. I wonder how polluting their surroundings with trash, which is regular occurrence in third world nations, is going to mesh with the Germans’ strict cleanliness rules, associated fines, and obsessive and punctilious care for the environment?

These young men in their 20-30 with a few women of the same age and a few children in tow, if they are fleeing war as they say, are really cowardly for having left behind most women, children, and the extended families and the elderly to fend for themselves in a dangerous and economically strapped zone. The Syrian conflict was exacerbated by the insane Arab Spring fomented under the Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.

But Muslims are not the most persecuted in Syria and Iraq – it’s the Christians, Yezidis, women, old people, and children who seem to be curiously missing or in a minority among these large groups of angry young men.

Eastern Europeans are furious that they must take in “refugees” when their own men leave their families behind and migrate to Spain, Italy, Germany, and Great Britain in search of jobs because their economies are plagued by severe unemployment, the result of national political corruption and EU’s socialist policies from Brussels.

Furthermore, white professionals in Europe are denied visas to the U.S. while our administration is bringing in illegal immigrants every month and rolling out the red carpet for illiterate Somalis, Hispanics, and assorted Muslims from other countries that have no intention of assimilating into our culture.

Romanians, who are white and Christian, are not allowed to enter the Schengen area without a passport but illegal immigrants from north Africa and the Middle East are let in with open arms, no questions asked. How many ISIS operatives are among these “refugees?”

Twenty-two of the twenty-eight EU countries have signed the Schengen Agreement in Luxembourg, two have opted-out (U.K. and Ireland) and four (Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, and Romania) did not participate. Some states like Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, even though are outside of EU, have signed the Schengen Agreement and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Vatican, San Marino, and Monaco are also de facto members of Schengen area.  With an area of 1,664,911 square miles and over 400 million people, the Schengen Area is an economic power house. It is very easy for members and foes with fake Syrian passports to cross its international borders.

A journalist describes how the U.N. talks incessantly about millions of children who do not own a blanket to stay warm, but these “refugees” can cobble together millions of dollars to buy a cargo ship to sail to the promised shores of Europe and then abandon said ship. It is sad that some people lose their lives in flimsy dinghies that cannot withstand the winds and currents of the Mediterranean. But how many of those who made it, were really sent to colonize Christian Europe? How many mosques and madrassas have been built and how many ghettoes have sprung up in the multicultural enclaves that European socialists so lovingly promote and encourage with their generous and misguided welfare?

Why would the elites promote failed multiculturalism? Is it easier this way to control the masses? Are the ruling elites and bureaucrats such generous bleeding heart humanists that they are willing to destroy their own civilization and replace it with a primitive culture that hates civilization? Is this their way to easier subdue a populace that is dependent on welfare? Or is it the more onerous and dark conspiracy theory mentioned by various sources of the 1925 Coudenhove-Kalergi plan described in the book, Praktischer Idealismus?  

Count Richard von Coudenhove-Kalergi wrote in Practical Idealism, “The man of the future will be of mixed race. Today’s races and classes will gradually disappear owing to the vanishing of space, time, and prejudice. The Eurasian-Negroid race of the future, similar in its appearance to the Ancient Egyptians, will replace the diversity of peoples with a diversity of individuals.”

Count Kalergi is said to have founded the ‘Pan-European’ movement in 1922 Vienna, which aimed to create a New World Order with its first step being European integration (EU). The elites who support European integration could have been influenced by the Kalergi plan with the potential backing of the Vatican.

Is it possible that the Muslim “refugee” populations, migrating in great numbers to non-Muslim western nations and overwhelming their dwindling demographics, are unwittingly or purposefully fulfilling the Kalergi plan?

Drowning financially and socially under forced migration and multiculturalism, aren’t European nations shamed into mixing ethnically, fearful of labels of racism and bigotry, sometimes fined and jailed if found guilty of “hate speech,” yielding to the invading Islamic culture with a whimper?

Committing demographic suicide, white Europeans are brainwashed in schools and by the MSM that reproduction harms the planet, while fertile Muslims have 8.1 children per family, negating their own history and origins is somehow humanitarian and progressive, and obeying the government is better than following the Bible.

Even though the United States has been relatively insulated from invasions due its geographical location and the two oceans, things are changing. The liberal open borders policies and the admission or importation of illegal aliens from countries that do not speak our language, do not assimilate, do not share our western civilization, are illiterate, and often not Christian, are turning our country into a veritable welfare-dependent Tower of Babel.  Our President has announced that he has decided to take in at least 10,000 Syrian “refugees” into our country.  And the authorities have no way to tell which ones are truly needy and which ones are ISIS jihadist blending in.

The important question is, what are these “refugees” fleeing from? We are certainly not at war with Syria. Are they fleeing ISIS, civil war, and the economic circumstances created by Hillary Clinton’s “Arab Spring” or are they on a quest of colonizing the west?

The MSM touted on every channel the western “democracy” arriving in the 7^th century theocracies that neither desired nor were willing to accept our democracy, but wished to replace it with the long-sought after Caliphate. The olive branch offered perhaps naively was quickly set on fire.

 

 

America the Broken Beacon?

America used to be the country of freedom where people dreamed of immigrating to if only they could get a passport, a visa, enough money to fly or sail across the ocean, if only the border guards would not arrest them in the U.S. if they had no papers, if only the military guards in their own countries would not shoot them on sight.

Cubans have risked their lives for decades to cross the 90 miles into Florida, fleeing a life of communist dictatorship, and a life of oppression and imprisonment in Castro’s regime, sometimes drowning in makeshift dinghies and other crafts, close to the shores of freedom, a beacon so close to the dirty fog of communism.

Other reports describe the murder of African Christian immigrants sailing to Europe on same boats with African Muslims. They were slaughtered by Muslims during the voyage on the Mediterranean. Some survived to tell the gruesome tale when rescued.

If they could only survive all these trials and tribulations and have enough skills necessary to fend for themselves financially, not become a ward of the state the moment they entered this shiny city on the hill, their dreams would come true. Those were the distant dreamers of the 1970s. The Beacon of America was awaiting talent and skills from around the world to contribute to a nation of citizens, not a nation of immigrants with allegiance to their former countries.

Now the President’s Dreamers are the “anchor babies” birthed on American soil by illegal mothers who cross the border, fly in their last month of pregnancy, or visit Disney World; the Dreamers are the illegals bussed or flown in by our administration and fanned across the country overnight because we are not diverse enough; the Dreamers are the Syrian and Somali “war refugees” who are brought in each month and dumped unceremoniously on unsuspecting small towns; the Dreamers are the drug gang members who are allowed into the country, no questions asked; the Dreamers are mostly uneducated, illiterate in their own language, and placed immediately on welfare, an undue burden on Americans who are struggling with unemployment, underemployment, and a bad economy.

It used to be that America wanted the best and the brightest immigrants who were willing to work, to assimilate, and to pledge allegiance to our country, to be useful to society, to make it better. That is no longer the case.

America was a tolerant Christian country full of patriotic Americans who loved their country. We keep hearing from progressives that we are a nation of immigrants. As Mark Levin said, we are not a nation of immigrants; we are a nation of citizens. Now it is on the slippery road of Western Europe which has allowed a deliberate failed multiculturalist policy to destroy many countries that find themselves now overrun by Muslim zealots who have only one scope in mind, to establish a world caliphate and to convert by any means necessary all the infidels to Islamic theology and theocracy.

Unchecked diversity and tolerance is destroying our western culture, replacing it stealthily with Islam and Sharia Law. Look at all the proselytizing for Islam lessons in our high schools across the country and the many chapters devoted to Islam in World History, while Christianity is hardly mentioned in the curriculum. Was it not progressives who demanded for decades the “separation of church and state” and now they have written Common Core textbooks to indoctrinate our children into Islam? If Islam is not the curriculum topic in social studies, English, or history, it is the indoctrination into the green religion of environmentalism, of Gaia, or Mother Earth, masqueraded as climate change. Skeptics are labeled terrorists. America had the best universities in the world where dialog and divergent thoughts and creative minds worked together to make things better for the world. Universities are now bastions of progressive intolerance where free speech and individual thought are stifled and persecuted.

There is nothing like the celebrated murderer and founder Ira Einhorn’s Earth Day to bring out the best and the not-so-brightest celebrants and worshippers of the global environmental movement – pretending to be green on the outside but rotten red on the inside. Just check out the photos of piles of trash they left behind around the National Mall in Washington, D.C. this past weekend.
